Tucked into the breathtaking Shell Valley at the base of Wyoming’s Bighorn Mountains, The Hideout Lodge & Guest Ranch is a rare blend of Western legacy and modern luxury. Spanning 266.7 deeded acres with access to over 650,000 acres of surrounding permitted terrain, this premier guest ranch offers more than just a destination—it delivers an immersive, upscale experience rooted in the spirit of the American West.

Founded in 1995 by Paula and David Flitner, The Hideout was established on the foundation of a historic legacy. Originally named the new Trapper Creek Guest Ranch, it paid homage to one of the area’s earliest guest ranches, which operated from 1899 to 1932. The original ranch was host to renowned visitors including Theodore Roosevelt, Ernest Hemingway, Owen Wister, and artists N.C. and Andrew Wyeth—setting a precedent for the ranch’s ongoing tradition of attracting discerning guests seeking inspiration, adventure, and authenticity.

Today, The Hideout accommodates approximately 25 guests per week in an all-inclusive, boutique setting known for its personalized service and intimate atmosphere. Under the attentive stewardship of owners Peter and Marijn De Cabooter, the ranch has become internationally recognized for its exceptional horsemanship program. With a string of over 100 horses—Quarter Horses, Paints, and Mustangs—The Hideout caters to riders of all levels through trail rides, cattle work, and natural horsemanship clinics guided by experienced wranglers.

Luxurious yet grounded in rustic elegance, accommodations include well-appointed log cabins and casitas with private bathrooms and expansive views. After a day on the range, guests unwind in the heated lap pool or hot tub, surrounded by pristine mountain air and Western skies. Beyond equestrian pursuits, the ranch offers fly-fishing, trap shooting, archery, hiking, and mountain biking. Its location allows for easy day trips to Yellowstone National Park and historic Cody, Wyoming.

With a multicultural team dedicated to creating unforgettable experiences, The Hideout Lodge & Guest Ranch has cultivated a global reputation and a loyal following of returning guests. It is a living story—one that honors its past while continuing to evolve as one of the American West’s most beloved guest ranches.

For those seeking a refined Western escape, The Hideout offers not only adventure and luxury but a deep-rooted connection to a storied tradition of ranching, exploration, and hospitality—all set on a stunning 266.7-acre legacy holding.
